Covid -19 Pandemic jeopardized the livelihoods of several families in Singapore. CAS members felt that it is our primary responsibility to support those badly affected and decided to support needy single-parent families.
Ms. Kanni volunteered to lead a fundraising campaign. CAS started out with a plan to distribute $110 worth of groceries and $40 NTUC vouchers to each of 56 single-parent families to mark its 56th anniversary, however, with the encouraging support from members and donors, the numbers were increased to 156. Distribution was done over 4 batches.
First was held on 30th May for 6 families identified by Ms. Devi. She assisted in purchasing and distributing the groceries with the help of couple of other volunteer members.
Second distribution was held on 6th Sept. groceries and vouchers were sent to the homes of 100 families in Taman Jurong vicinity. Members and volunteers helped in packing and distributing. Taman Jurong CC assisted by providing the venue for packing. Senior Minister Mr. Tharman Shanmugaratnam came by to thank members of CAS on this meaningful project.
Third distribution was held on 3rd October for resident of Bukit Batok. MP for the constituency Mr. Murali Pillai joined us at the venue to lend support. Final distribution was on 13th December at Bukit Gombak. Minister of State for Trade and Industry Ms. Low Yen Ling graced the event.
