Plan for Your Peace of Mind: LPA Initiative
19 April 2025 • 4 mins read

Planning for the future is an act of care, not only for oneself but also for loved ones. Guided by this belief, Civilians Association (Singapore) organised the “Plan for Your Peace of Mind” Lasting Power of Attorney Initiative on 19 April 2025 at the CAS Office. Though modest in scale, the session reflected CAS’ commitment to empowering individuals with knowledge that supports dignity, security and informed decision-making across life stages.
The initiative focused on raising awareness of three critical aspects of personal planning: the Lasting Power of Attorney, making a Will and Organ Donation. These topics, often overlooked or deferred, were thoughtfully unpacked in a calm and approachable setting, allowing participants to engage openly and ask questions without pressure.
The session was led by Ms Sudha, Third Vice President of CAS, who brought both clarity and empathy to the discussion. Drawing from real-life scenarios, she explained how an LPA functions, when it becomes relevant and why it is essential to put one in place before unforeseen circumstances arise. By walking participants through practical examples, she helped demystify what can often feel like a complex legal process. Visual references to actual forms further enhanced understanding, allowing participants to see how decisions are formally documented.
“Planning for the future is an act of care, not only for oneself but also for loved ones.”
Beyond technical explanations, the session encouraged reflection on personal values and responsibilities. Participants were invited to consider how their choices today could ease decision-making for their families in the future. This aligns closely with CAS’ broader vision of fostering resilient individuals and families who are prepared, informed and supported.
The outcome of the session was meaningful despite the small group size. Participants gained a clearer appreciation of why planning ahead matters and how an LPA can safeguard their wishes if they are ever unable to speak for themselves. Many shared that they had previously underestimated the importance of such arrangements and left with renewed motivation to take practical next steps.
At its core, the initiative reaffirmed CAS’ belief that community service extends beyond large-scale events. Sometimes, impact is found in quiet conversations that equip individuals with the confidence to plan responsibly. As one key takeaway echoed throughout the session, peace of mind is not accidental. It is built through informed choices made early and thoughtfully.
Through initiatives like this, Civilians Association (Singapore) continues to advance its mission of holistic community care, ensuring that individuals are not only supported in times of need but also empowered to plan with clarity, confidence and compassion.
