Civilians Association (Singapore), in collaboration with the SSH Alumni and Saturday Movement, hosted a heartwarming Hari Raya Haji lunch on 7 June 2025 at Block 57A Lengkok Bahru Pavilion. The initiative was designed to foster meaningful connections with seniors in the community, reflecting CAS’ mission of nurturing a caring and inclusive society. The event brought together 32 dedicated volunteers to engage with 110 elderly beneficiaries, creating a day filled with warmth, joy, and celebration.

The morning commenced with volunteers setting up tables, arranging cutlery, and ensuring the venue was ready to welcome the seniors. By 10:30am, residents began arriving, greeted with smiles and the vibrant energy of volunteers. The event featured interactive activities, including emceeing and sing-alongs led by Saturday Movement, which encouraged participation and a sense of community.

“Even the simplest act of sharing a meal and a smile can leave a lasting impact on someone’s heart.”

Lunch, prepared by Saturday Movement’s S17 Kitchen, was served at 11am. SSH Alumni assisted in serving the meals, providing attentive care and meaningful conversations that brightened the seniors’ day. A special highlight was the celebration of June birthdays, with mini cakes, small gifts, and heartfelt songs, creating personal moments of joy for the seniors.

The outcome of the event went beyond a simple meal. Volunteers and seniors alike experienced the power of human connection and shared celebration. Feedback highlighted how interactions fostered empathy, understanding, and a deeper appreciation of the challenges and joys of the elderly. The event reinforced CAS’ commitment to enhancing community engagement and promoting intergenerational bonding. As one volunteer reflected, “Even the simplest act of sharing a meal and a smile can leave a lasting impact on someone’s heart.”

This Hari Raya Haji celebration exemplified CAS’ dedication to fostering a society that values compassion, inclusion, and shared joy. By bringing together youth and seniors in a meaningful celebration, CAS continues to cultivate a culture of care, ensuring that every member of the community feels valued, remembered, and connected.
