Illuminating Unity: A Deepavali Celebration of Culture and Community
9 November 2024 • 4 mins read

The Taman Jurong Deepavali Celebration 2024 @ Zone E radiated the spirit of unity, joy, and cultural appreciation. Held at Block 338 Tah Ching Road MPH, this vibrant event was co-organized by Taman Jurong Zone E Residents’ Network, Civilians Association (Singapore), and Thye Hua Kwan Moral Charities. Designed to foster togetherness regardless of race or religion, the celebration illuminated the neighborhood with the rich essence of Deepavali.

The evening unfolded with colorful festivities, including a Henna booth and Rangoli competition, showcasing the creativity and cultural artistry of participants. A series of dynamic performances followed, featuring Indian, Malay, and Chinese singers and dancers, with audiences eagerly joining in the celebratory dances. These moments reflected the power of music and movement to transcend language and cultural boundaries.
Guest of Honor Mr. Shawn Huang, accompanied by Mr. Sellvem and Mr. Heng Siew Juay, graced the occasion with the ceremonial lighting of the oil lamp, a profound gesture symbolizing hope and enlightenment. Heartfelt speeches emphasized the importance of unity and compassion within the community.

Another highlight of the evening was the grocery distribution to 83 families, underscoring the event’s charitable spirit.

The celebration concluded with a prize presentation for Rangoli competitors, more performances, and an exciting lucky draw.
With a remarkable turnout of 350 attendees—90% of whom were non-Indians—the celebration was a true testament to the beauty of inclusivity. Participants and volunteers alike gained a deeper appreciation for Deepavali’s cultural significance and left with a renewed sense of community spirit.

This joyous gathering reaffirmed CAS's mission to promote harmony and collaboration, creating a shared space where diversity thrives and connections grow.
